the how and why...

why?  well i am NOT going for the dreads look, you can all breath a sigh of relief ;)  i am not doing it to be rid of chemicals for the sake of the earth (a noble pursuit, just not the reason for me), i am not doing it to save money (i know, this one is a shocker! but let's be honest, i normally can get shampoo for pennies if not free)...so then why.  well because in the research i have done, it all points to healthier hair when you get rid of the poo!  my hair is a constant tangle of tight curls underneath, nice curl in the middle and wavy/straight pieces on top with frizz and fly aways galore!  ugghh.  so reading that going no-poo could change the overall feel and "temperament" of my hair, it was a no brainer experiment for me!

i decided to give it a try, so my small amount of reaserch turned into a larger amount.  i really wanted to make sure i was getting the info right and the recipies for a cleanser just perfect, when to my surprise i learned that my curly hair changed all the rules for going no-poo.

the common method for cleansing is a baking soda/water mixture that will be rubbed into the scalp and rinsed.  cleaning the oils without stripping the natural balance that should be there.  and an apple cider viniger mix as a clarifyer...read all kinds of good info here!  i was planning to do this...

BUT then i read this and everything changed for me.  i didn't know curly girls had a group!  well now i understand even more about why my hair is doing what it was and i was really getting excited about the no poo experiment!

it all really makes sense.  our bodies are designed perfectly, by a loving God who wants us to be happy, even with our hair.  so, i continue to find myself going back to the way my body was designed (yup, birth, hair, etc.  i do believe in medical and modern advancments, God designed our awesome brains too ;)!)  our scalps produce oil, it coats and protects the hairs.  it is good to cleanse it and begin the process fresh.  but chemical strippers only seem to be damaging it beyond a simple cleaning.  so let's see what happens!

so far i am happy to report that i am not experiancing too much grease.  today is day 6 and the first that i have done a ponytail (i am a daily pony person) and not because it's greasy, just easier for my day.  i have used the conditioner only method (for curly girls) twice in that time and it feels like it is getting a little softer.  not expecting too much yet...but i have nothing to complain about yet either, so this feels like a good first week :)

feel free to ask questions , comment, take a sniff when you see me!  all part of the experiment ;)
