A rainy day...

Here it is a rainy day. Dark and drippy. I am a sad person without sunshine! Today I managed a smiling afternoon...the smells in my kitchen brought a little sunlight to my home! I worked on making and canning apple butter. Oh the full smells of fall, the apples, the warmth, the spices too! Then time for getting dinner rolling, so on to the soup. A perfect dish for a wet day. The ham bone soaked and then the split peas were added. The smells from the pot so fragrant! Both so full on their own, never competing, just complimenting. What a little cocoon to create for my family on a rainy day.
